Objective: To investigate the expression of Vascularendothelial growth factor (VEGF) and Aquaporin4(AQP4) in neurogliocytoma and brain metastases, then explore the effects of VEGF and AQP4 on the malignant degree and the progression of peritumoral brain edema of human gliomas and metastatic tumor.  Method: To utilize the immunohistochemical method to examine the protein expression of VEGF and AQP4 in 73 cases human gliomas and 15 cases human metastatic tumor,in addition,8 cases normal brain tissues were used as control.  Results: The VEGF protein expression could not be found in 8 cases normal brain tissues,it was found in gliomas of all gradings and its expression was significantly enhanced with the increase of glioma gradings. The VEGF protein expression level was considerably higher in malignant gliomas than those in low grade glioma(sP0.05).The AQP4 protein expression was found in normal brain tissues and gliomas of all gradings, its expression level in normal brain and grade gliomas had no significant deviation( P>0.05);Its expression level was considerably lower in normal brain than those in malignant gliomas and those in intracranial metastatic tumor(P<0.01); its expression level was significantly lower in low grade gliomas than those in malignant gliomas and those in intracranial metastatic tumor( P<0.01) ; its expression level in malignant gliomas and intracranial metastatic
